The day was packed with insightful discussions, expert talks, and a special screening of the film Volver, all designed to deepen students’ understanding of Almodóvar’s unique cinematic style, his impact on Spanish culture, and his portrayal of themes such as identity, gender, and changes in society. The conference also provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with A Level Spanish students from other schools and discuss the broader context of Spanish cinema within the global film history.
As part of the A Level Spanish curriculum, the visit was not only a chance to further appreciate the cultural significance of Almodóvar’s films but also a way for students to enrich their studies in film, literature, and language. The experience truly brought to life the theoretical aspects of the course, offering new perspectives and sparking deeper conversations among the students.
Our Year 13 students left the BFI with a renewed passion for Spanish culture, eager to incorporate what they had learned into their studies and future discussions. The conference was an unforgettable event that allowed them to engage with one of the most influential Spanish filmmakers of our time in a meaningful way.
