Social Media Communication

This is a form of communication that I am sure you are all familiar with and we’ve talked about this a lot to students at school. It is a wonderful communication tool when used in the right way but it can also be a very toxic platform and difficult to navigate. Using text speak and slang phrases, as is often seen on social media platforms, can also be detrimental to our language and communication skills. As a school we are regularly drawn into the negative side of social media and are keen to educate our young people in how to manage their own behaviour on these platforms.

This is a perfect example of where our 3Rs are so important – Respect, Responsibility and Relationships – apply these to social media use and you can’t go far wrong. In the end though if you are having a difficult time time remember Block, Delete, Unfriend or Unfollow. It’s really that simple to control what you allow into your space.

Please take a moment this week to speak to your child about this and remind them that it is their responsibility to ensure they are using social media in a positive way. It is a message we are very keen to instill in the young people in our care.
