Departing just before half term, a group of excited students from Bushey Meads School set off on an unforgettable trip to the stunning Bay of Naples in Italy. The adventure was packed with history, culture, and breathtaking scenery — even if the weather and waves had a few surprises in store!
The highlight of the first day was a visit to the beautiful island of Capri. Despite a rather rough sea crossing on the ferry, everyone agreed that the island’s charm made it all worthwhile. Once ashore, we enjoyed a delicious Italian lunch of fresh pasta and authentic pizza, while taking in the picturesque streets and sea views.
Another unforgettable experience was our hike up Mount Vesuvius. Although the low clouds unfortunately spoiled what would have been an incredible view over the Bay of Naples, the walk itself was fascinating — a rare chance to stand on the slopes of one of the world’s most famous volcanoes!
We also took part in guided tours of Pompeii and Herculaneum, exploring the ancient ruins and learning about the lives of those who lived there before the eruption of AD 79. It was both moving and inspiring to walk through the remarkably preserved streets and buildings.
Back at our hotel, we were treated to spectacular views of the coastline — the perfect setting to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
Overall, it was an amazing trip full of laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories. Everyone returned home a little tired, but with plenty of stories to tell and a deeper appreciation of Italy’s rich history and beauty.
