Kubb at BMS
During the current climate, the students who are attending BMS obviously do not follow a normal timetable.  However, they do have a lunchtime and as the weather has been so nice recently, they make the most of the sunshine and eat outside.
Usually, students like to play football or basketball at lunch to unwind and let off some energy.  Instead, we have tried to avoid sports where respiration rates increase and students could come into contact with others, so have therefore introduced the game of Kubb.
Kubb is a Swedish game of Viking origin (often referred to as ‘Viking Chess’) and is played on a small rectangular lawn.  The object of the game is to throw wooden batons to knock over your opponent’s wooden blocks (kubbs) before they knock over yours.  After knocking over all of your opponent’s kubbs you then need to knock over the ‘king’.  The first person to do this wins.  It is a combination of bowls and horseshoes, is very tactical and is really good fun.
The improvement in the students over the past week is very visible, and although they haven’t yet beaten the staff, it will only be a matter of time.
If you have a garden that measures 8 x 4 metres or more, I highly recommend you purchase a Kubb set as it is a great game for the entire family.
