The Power of Small Acts of Kindness

At Bushey Meads, we are so proud of how enthusiastic our students are about our ‘Mind To Be Kind’ ethos. So many students have shown such kindness throughout the Covid Pandemic and I am so pleased to say we have noticed that since our students have returned to school, random acts of kindness have become a normal way of life for so many.

Just this week I have witnessed students returning lost property instead of ignoring it, going out of their way to help friends who have been hurt, picking up litter without being asked to, and a lot of very positive and kind language. I also received the follow email from our catering manager:

Yesterday while at the Pod in the Quad Peter N was buying food for himself and another student came up to buy water, unfortunately didn’t have any money on his card so walked away. Peter then bought another bottle of water and walked over to the student and handed him the bottle. Ashley, my staff member said to him “is he your friend” Peter said “no, just bought it for him as he looked hot and needed a water” We thought this was a good act of kindness and thought you should know when students behave better. Wanted Peter to be recognised for what he did!

Whilst we don’t expect our students to go and spend money on other students regularly (and we do have a great cold water fountain in the canteen), I was so proud of this small act of kindness and it is the small acts of kindness our students show on a daily basis form the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere during the school day.

Peter is not alone. Our student body has a fantastic reputation for being kind, understanding and accepting and I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate them all.
