Competitive inter school sport is back !

Year 7 and 9 DISTRICT ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Tuesday 30th June the Year 7 and Year 9 athletics teams travelled to a very wet Woodside Stadium to compete in the District Athletics Championships. This is the first competitive athletics for the school for nearly 2 years because of last summer’s lockdown. The event was affected by the covid situation locally with 5 schools entered leaving the BMS students in a very competitive event against Haberdashers, Parmiters, St Clement Danes and St Michaels, some of the strongest athletics schools in the region. Despite this the students put in a great effort and really benefited from the experience of competing at an actual athletics track.

Special mention must go to Mathew T in 7 ASH who managed to win the Year 7 Boys Discus event with a great throw of 17m85 – a great achievement. Other notable performances included :

Comment : On Thursday 1st July the year 8 football team played their first piece of competitive sport for over a year in a district 6-a-side tournament. The boys played some excellent football considering they have not represented the school for so long. They came up against a lot of very good teams and more then held their own. It was a really good experience for the team and one that will hold them in good stead for next year where there will hopefully be a lot more competitive sport played.
