GCSE PE Practical Moderation
On Wednesday 7th April as part of the Staff Development afternoon the PE and Health Faculty ran a mock practical moderation afternoon for the GCSE PE students. The new specifications for the PE GCSE and A Level courses have further raised the focus on students being strong all-round sports performers who are regularly participating in a range of sports competitively both in and out of school.
To support the assessments of the activities the GCSE group participated in assessments in badminton, basketball, netball, table tennis, gymnastics, trampolining and dance. The students responded really well to the conditioned competitive formats and the PE staff applied and developed their understanding of new specification criteria. It was a very successful event with thanks to Mrs Cooper for organising the structure of the afternoon. The students now move onto another preparation moderation with a number of other local schools in Potters Bar next week before the final moderation in April.
The PE and Health Faculty would like to take this opportunity to remind all students and parents considering sporting option courses at KS4 and KS5 that the assessment of practical activities is very rigorous and students need to ensure they are consistently representing school teams in a range of sports as well as regularly playing at least one sport competitively outside of school to be successful.
