SAM Learning 10 Hour Challenge

The SAM Learning 10 Hour Challenge took place between Monday 1st April – Monday 22nd April in which students were encouraged to complete 10 hours of study on SAM Learning.

The competition headline figures for each year group are as follows:

Year 7
  • 81.5% increase in task hours
  • 30% increase in usage outside of school
  • 165% increase in task hours per student
  • 68 students attempted the challenge
  • 11 students completed the challenge
Year 8
  • 86.5% increase in task hours
  • 11% increase in usage outside of school
  • 185% increase in task hours per student
  • 58 students attempted the challenge
  • 7 students completed the challenge
Year 9
  • 84.9% increase in task hours
  • 21% increase in usage outside of school
  • 73.7% increase in task hours per student
  • 93 students attempted the challenge
  • 17 students completed the challenge
Year 10
  • 111.9% increase in task hours
  • 45% increase in usage outside of school
  • 177% increase in task hours per student
  • 48 students attempted the challenge
  • 6 students completed the challenge
Year 11
  • 32% increase in usage outside of school
  • 44 students attempted the challenge
  • 4 students completed the challenge

The certificates and prizes were awarded to students during assemblies this week.  Every student who achieved 10 hours or more received a certificate and the student who had accumulated the highest number of hours in each year group received an Amazon Kindle Fire 7.  The winners in each year group were:

  • Year 7:  Blossom Santana-Spevick
  • Year 8:  Ashwin Aravinthan
  • Year 9:  Japesh Agrawal and Jhanavi Tiwari (2 prizes awarded as so many students entered)
  • Year 10:  Yash Patel
  • Year 11:  The winner will be awarded their prize during the Year 11 Leavers Assembly after the public examinations so I don’t want to spoil the surprise

A huge congratulations to all of the students who attempted the challenge and a special mention to those who achieved 10 hours or more – well done!

The rationale behind the competition was to increase the amount of learning taking place to support student progress.  Studies have shown that students who use SAM Learning for 10 hours or more are likely to achieve 1 GCSE grade better in 2 subjects as well as a +0.20 increase in their Progress 8 score (they will make more progress between Years 7-11).

There will be more SAM Learning competitions next year and I would love for every student to enter.
