On Tuesday, our year 9 and 10 dancers explored release technique, improvisation and contact work with Shaun Dillon Dance Company. Shaun Dillon has worked, toured and trained with artists such as Hofesh Shechter, Akram Khan and Matthew Bourne. After graduating from Roehampton University, which offers one of the best dance studies BA degrees in the country, he worked professionally with many dance companies as well as starting his own.
The students who took part thrived on the challenging floor and contemporary work. This workshop was very different to their own style of training such as ballet, jazz or modern, as they had to focus on what their bodies felt like as opposed to the shape they needed to make. All of our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will use the technique Shaun taught them in their own choreography in the future.
