Enrichment Day
Enrichment day, before Easter, comprised trips and visits and deep learning experiences inside and outside of school.

Year 7 activities alternated with the previous enrichment day, with students either visiting a London art gallery to enhance their own art understanding or following a varied programme built around the inspirational visit from children’s author, Sue Hampton.

Year 8 students enjoyed broadening their cultural understanding with Africa Day; comprising drumming, dancing and podcasts.

It was the turn of Year 9s to deepen their understanding of our new mantra ‘a Mind to be Kind’, working on the themes of understanding, tolerance and support.

It is a requirement that we teach themes from RE at Key Stage Four as well as in Years 7, 8 & 9 . We do this in part with carefully crafted themes of the week and with enrichment days such as the one Year 10 benefited from. Year 10 visited a Hindu temple and learned about one of the world’s great religions and the way Hindu’s practice that religion.

Year 11 worked on their important CVs and Personal Statements for most of the day. In the afternoon they took part in an active Easter Celebration Science Assembly, in which prizes were given for effort and new revision activities over Easter were launched.

Year 12 & 13 took the opportunity of a day’s deep learning, focusing the day on study for their forthcoming exams. In some subjects this took the form of a visit: Law and Government & Politics students visited the Houses of Parliament, Economics students visited the Bank of England, Sociology students visited ‘The Clink’ in London. Other subjects held intensive study days in-school. Science and Psychology students received an active session from an outside speaker on ‘The Brain’, and science students took part in the launch of a new app to help with their revision and study.

We now look forward to 11th July, when our final enrichment day of the year will comprise 30 different activities from which students may choose.
