Building Bridges
This term, Year 10 D&T students have studied the theory behind structural engineering.
TENSION <> COMPRESSION <> TORSION <> BENDING <> SHEARING
The next step was to put this knowledge to the test by designing and constructing a model bridge from strips of pine, paper and PVA glue.
Many of the results were very impressive, with some bridges managing to carry every weight to be found in the Science labs. In the end, some students decided to test their designs to destruction and it took the full weight of a student (60kg) before it collapsed under the stress.
Well done Year 10.
