World Book Day Bake-Off

As part of the celebrations for World Book Day students were invited to put their baking skills to the test and create book-themed cakes for a competition.  The cakes were amazing, highlighting the outstanding skill and surpassing all expectations. Students had clearly invested a huge amount of time, imagination and creativity into their projects. Some represented specific books or authors, including a selection of small Hedwig cakes, others celebrated books in general or even World Book Day itself.Throughout the day 128 people, both staff and students, admired the creations and voted for their top three. The following day, slices of the cakes were sold in a charity bake-sale, raising £123.45 for Book Aid International, a charity whose vision is ‘a world where everyone has access to books that will enrich, improve and change their lives.’  As a result of this generosity, both by students who baked and donated their cakes, and those who purchased and enjoyed them, the charity will be able to provide over 60 new books to people around the world who are facing conflict or displacement. After all votes were counted, and a final round of judging, the winners were announced and students presented with well-earned certificates and prizes:
