New Deputy Head Boy and Girl
The final instalment to our BMS Student Leadership body 2019-20 is now complete. It is with great pleasure, I announce the successful appointment of our Deputy Head Girl, Khushali Pabari and our Deputy Head Boy, David Ali-Lauzzana.
The submitted applications highlighted what a strong field of candidates we had and each applicant inspired us with their answers and vision.  The interview panel had the tough decision to select the final successful candidates and it was no easy feat.  In fact, the panel saw such great strengths in many of the candidates, that, as well as appointing for the two intended roles, several of the other candidates were offered other leadership roles!
Here’s a little bit more about our two newest student leaders:
Khushali Pabari

I have always looked up to the deputy and head girls of the school. Being deputy head girl will give me an immense sense of satisfaction. Also, I would have pride in being a role model for the younger years as all other deputy and head girls were for me.

In terms of my strengths, I would say that I am quite a good leader as well as being able to work well in a team. Each Saturday, I volunteer at my temple as a Gujarati teacher. When I first started, I was a classroom assistant and worked with many others as well as the main teacher. However, now I have graduated to being the main teacher and I lead my own team. During the summer holidays, I took part in the NCS programme with a group of people who were essentially strangers. Working with them was quite an overwhelming thought at first, but now I feel like I can confidently work with a group of people despite not knowing them.

My vision for the school would be for it to continue having an extremely positive work environment as well as an amazing social atmosphere. But above all, I would love to be a part of the legacy of Bushey Meads.

David Ali-Lauzzana
Being Deputy Head Boy is a chance to inspire other students and the community. I believe that any Deputy Head Boy requires confidence, leadership and compassion to be successful, which is exactly what I can provide the school with.

Last academic year I was a prefect and spent most of my lunchtimes with the younger students, whether it be lunchtime duty in the friendship area or playing basketball in the playground. One of the students said “David, you inspire me a lot” which really touched me and has given me the motivation to become Deputy Head Boy and inspire younger students within the school.

In my previous school, I was the captain of the basketball team, because the coach realised my leadership qualities. This can translate to my new role where I can be part of the leadership of the student parliament and other teams. I have had some experience of presenting to various audiences and look forward to expressing and sharing the student voice to students, staff, governors and parents.

Last year, whilst looking at courses to study at university, I realised the importance of research. I want to make a difference in the younger years by educating them about what careers and opportunities are available to them in the future, as I regret not doing that myself at an earlier stage of my life. Something else that I want to focus on is the awareness of physical health and the importance of exercise, sleep and diet, adding onto the amazing job that the teachers are already doing.
