Le défi de Pâques- Easter Challenge

As part of Flair week, students in Mrs Paddick’s year 8,9 and 10 French classes were set a challenge to complete over the Easter holidays. They rose to the challenge and produced some amazingly creative outcomes as a result.

Year 8s were asked to learn and remember 7 sentences in French about sports, which they had to say and translate. This involved recording themselves speaking in French, supporting our school-wide focus on improving oracy across the school. Several students were brave enough to appear on camera also trying to throw and catch a ball or do keepy-uppies at the same time! They all did a fantastic job, but the winner was Peter Nicolaou who impressed with his good pronunciation and recall of the phrases! Lacey Wheaton, Maddie Cozens and Tayyeba Ihsan were close runners up.

The year 9 challenge was to explain one of the trickiest parts of French grammar (the perfect tense) to year 8s. Some students chose to create a google slides presentation and some produced excellent Kahoot quizzes. There were some amazing peer-teaching resources produced, but the winner had to be Darius Oprea with his excellent explanation, showing just how well he has grasped this difficult concept himself. Close runners up were Emilia Donald and Kristyna Kovarova.

The year 10s showed their creative sides by producing poems and stories in French using a set of verbs called Mrs Vandertramp. Not only did they create excellent pieces of French writing, but they also read their works out loud on camera, once again developing their oracy skills. Their creative outputs resulted in animations, horror stories, thrillers and acrostic poems! They were a delight to listen to. There were two joint winners: Benji Winslett for a fantastic stop-animation with lego and Emily Wood for a classic short story, beautifully read.

Bravo to all our students who rose to the défi!
