Law Students meet Ex Met Police Officer...

On Thursday 30th March, Year 12 law students enjoyed a visit from Steve Williams, whose career with the police and legal services spans 36 years.

Mr Williams was able to share with the students glimpses of his work that had direct links with the law A Level course. As much of the course is evaluative, it was interesting to hear how Mr Williams has been heavily involved in helping the police work with the public and rebuild trust. It was interesting to hear how he has worked as Family Liaison and the vital role that plays in criminal investigations. Mr Williams kindly shared with the class a case study involving the murder of a woman that he was instrumental in solving, leading to the murderer being brought to justice. Mr Williams also talked about the role of PACE and links to the protection of human rights – topics studied in detail in year 13. One of Mr Williams’ roles has been Diaster Victim Identification – working not only in the UK after events like the London Bombings and but also in Thailand after the tsunami.

Now working in civil law outside the police service, no doubt Mr Williams’ presentation will inspire students to continue with their legal studies and enter one of the many careers linked to law.
