I recently took part in an online internship hosted by a company called InvestIN Education. I did this internship as I wanted to gain experience and knowledge about engineering. During the internship, I learnt about different sectors of engineering such as sustainability in engineering, mechanical and vehicle engineering, space and flight, and material engineering. Many different industry executives talked about their area of engineering, their journey to where they are now, and the subjects they studied at university.
I particularly enjoyed learning about aeronautical engineering and vehicles from two of the engineers. One engineer, who studied aeronautical engineering at Imperial College, works for Rolls Royce and is a thermo fluids engineer for the Trent 7000 jet engine and the other was a lady who is a materials engineer and has worked on many projects with multiple models of McLaren.
I had many activities to do during the internship, some were group activities and some were individual ones. One activity was to come up with a solution for a transportation system to get to Mars and back, taking into account renewable energy, resources, how the journey can be efficient and if the rocket should have separate parts. Another activity involved planning a solution to solve problems within autonomous vehicles.
I would definitely InvestIN recommend to anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge about the career they are thinking of pursuing. I found the internship really inspiring and appreciate having been given this opportunity as it is invaluable experience which will stand me in good stead for the future.
