Offshore Shell’s Generous Donation Enriches Students’ Culinary Education

BMS has been handpicked as one of the fortunate recipients of a generous donation from Offshore Shell. This family run company in Devon has selected 250 schools nationwide to receive an exclusive delivery of 8 kilograms of their finest rope-grown mussels, and we’re ecstatic to be among the chosen few.

The fresh mussels have opened up a unique learning opportunity for our students, particularly as many students admitted to never having tasted a mussel let alone cooked with them. We learnt where the mussels came from, how to test if they were still alive and how to cook them 3 ways. We encouraged all the students to taste the mussels at the end of the session

Engaging in practical lessons involving the mussels has allowed our students to broaden their culinary horizons and appreciate the importance of sustainable seafood choices.

Both Mrs Hanbury and Ms Amao’s food groups had a brilliant experience – thanks for the free rope-grown mussels OffshoreShell! It’s provided our pupils with new food life skills and it’s been a fabulous learning experience for them all – something we would not normally do! Thanks to The Food Teacher Centre.
