In this final half term in Year 9 the dance students have been exploring a new unit exploring, Musicals.
Each week the students take part in a professional style workshop where they must learn choreography at a staggeringly quick pace, complete a task based on the dance style of the musical then perform it for their peers. We are only half way through and already this has been a very challenging unit that has included original and inspired choreography from musicals such as Hamilton, Mamma Mia, Matilda, High School Musical and Six.
My highlight so far in this unit has been seeing some of the students challenge themselves by taking on a leadership role and running a section of the lesson based on a musical of their choice. Olivia Wright taught her Revolting Children choreography from Matilda to the class and Sienna Mash has run a workshop on the hit musical Waitress. I look forward to seeing many more Year 9 students come forward with their musical ideas.
