Year 7 MFL students celebrate the Day of the...

On Thursday 24th October our Year 7 Spanish students transformed part of the school hall into a vibrant celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) as part of their curriculum celebration. They created a colorful array of  Day of the Dead masks, traditional altars adorned with paper marigolds and candles, calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls), pan de muerto (traditional Day of the Dead bread), and papel picado (brightly colored tissue paper with intricate cut-out designs), bringing authenticity to their displays. It was inspiring to see the creativity and dedication that students put into their projects as each item was crafted with care and captured the essence of the Day of the Dead, which celebrates life, memory, and heritage. This celebration was not only a fantastic showcase of our students’ hard work but also an immersive way to bring language and culture to life.

The display of French inventions created by Year 7 French students was equally impressive  with intricate models of the Eiffel Tower, stethoscopes, early cameras, and hot air balloons, each representing groundbreaking French contributions to the world. The Eiffel Tower models were especially eye-catching, capturing the grandeur of this iconic landmark. The stethoscopes and cameras showcased the students’ attention to detail and knowledge of each invention’s impact on science and art. One of the highlights of the evening was the hot air balloon models, inspired by the Montgolfier brothers’ pioneering flight. The display evidenced the students’ skills and their enthusiasm for French culture and innovation.

We were also very proud of the students who went on stage to perform French and Spanish role plays and told parents what they have been learning about to date in their French and Spanish lessons.
