So far in the Year 10 we have started to learn about the topics we need to know about for our GCSEs, we have learnt about Kaiser Wilhelm II; the Weimar Republic as well as the crises they had to face; Hitler’s rise to power ;and Nazi Germany. Currently, we are exploring the changes within society and those inferior in it as well, during and after Hitler becoming Fuhrer.
We started the year off with learning about Kaiser Wilhelm II: we learnt about his childhood, parents, and what made him the man he was. We also explored the negative and positive decisions he made when he was in power. During this time we were also learning about pre WWI Germany and their social system: they were under an autocratic government; and Germany’s industrial success .Afterwards, our knowledge increased with how the Great Depression, hyperinflation and the Treaty of Versailles affected Germany. Due to all of this, Hitler was able to manipulate people and become Chancellor.Did you know that during hyperinflation a loaf of bread was worth 6 million marks?
To help us gather more knowledge we use chromebooks, watch videos, use interesting textbooks and helpful websites such as Padlet where the whole class adds their knowledge so everyone can use it and help each other out.
We have also learnt how to answer multiple GCSE mark questions and many useful techniques for them; such as recognising the difference between answering ‘how’ and ‘why’ interpretation questions and what to include in our answers to get the full marks
We always start off the lesson with something that will get our brains working; something that will get us thinking. Here, we were given a primary source( a picture from Nazi Germany) and we were asked to analyse it. There is always something for those who want to strive for more in lessons.
Here is an activity we did exploring the elements of a ‘perfect Nazi woman’. Inside of her are all the features that she should have for example, she should be a mother and a wife. She should also look natural. Outside of her are all the things she shouldn’t be like such as a woman should not be working, wearing makeup and short skirts.
