This week we demonstrated to all students that we care deeply about them as individuals and want them to be as happy as they can be during their time at the school and in future life.
The Theme of the Week was Self Care and Deputy Headteacher Mr Searle and Assistant Headteacher Mrs Till led some really important whole school assemblies in the Main Hall and provided online assemblies to be shown in Character Development Groups across the school. With our school mantra of ‘Our School Has a Mind to Be Kind’ we often think of kindness to others, but we also need to be kind to ourselves.
We need to take care of our health and our physical, emotional and spiritual needs and make sure we are surrounded by the right people in our social life – people that influence us for good. As Mr Searle said, we only have one body, one mind and one life, so we need to take care of it.
When we do take care of ourselves we reduce stress, eliminate anxiety, improve concentration and energy and overall happiness. The assemblies reminded students of 8 key tips to take care of yourself effectively. Do ask your children if they can remember what the tips are and which ones they need to improve. One of them was to minimise screen time and make sure that we don’t negatively affect our important sleep times (which should be a minimum of eight hours) with time on devices or gaming consoles.
The other key message given was to make sure you make the right decisions to avoid situations where you might compromise yourself. Consider your location, the people around you and don’t succumb to negative peer pressure.
Take care of yourself – it’s necessary!
