As we settle back into the new academic year we would like to remind all students of our uniform expectations so that we can avoid any misunderstandings about what is and is not permitted. The vast majority of our students wear their uniform as expected and are superb ambassadors for Bushey Meads School, both on and off the school site. However, there is a minority of students who are drawing negative attention for uniform infringements. This wastes valuable time in the school day for both students and staff so we are appealing to all students to wear their uniform as expected. There is a full uniform list on our website and in the school planners but the main infringements we would like to clarify are:

• Piercings – piercings are not allowed other than one small stud earring in the lobe of the ear(s). No other jewellery is permitted to be worn.
• Make-up – must be discrete (barely noticeable). False eyelashes, nail polish or acrylic/gel nails must not be worn
• Hair – hair must be kept neat and tidy and not be dyed an unnatural colour, shaved off (a minimum of a grade 2 for sides and back of hair) or have colours or lines/patterns/words cut or woven into it. ‘Cult’ hairstyles are not allowed.
• Footwear – we do not permit the wearing of trainers, boots, sports or fashion shoes. If there is a medical need to wear alternative footwear, the School Nurse must receive a medical letter and then authorise this.
• Skirts – school skirts must not be more than 5cm above the knee and must not be tight-fitting or stretchy.

This list is not exhaustive but are the main infringements we see from time to time. In the event of uniform infringements students will work in internal exclusion until the matter is rectified. For example, the piercing must be removed, alternative footwear swapped for school plimsolls or excessively short hair grown out.
