I wouldn’t usually be open to writing a newsletter, but since this trip was such a big eye-opener to new experiences, I felt I should encourage students at Bushey Meads to take part in next year’s SKI TRIP!!!
We started the trip at Bushey Meads, leaving around 9:00, and from that moment, the excitement kicked in. We arrived at Dover, where the scenery was picturesque—like something out of the movies. After around two hours, we reached France via a ferry so smooth it didn’t even feel like we were on a boat. Then, it was time to embark on our 20-hour journey! Do not fear the journey—on the coach, we watched movies, played I Spy, enjoyed Mr Cox’s wonderful karaoke, and took in plenty of new sights as we travelled through the UK, France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. It was an amazing experience!
As we neared Falcade, with just two hours to go, the butterflies kicked in. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, eager to arrive. Once we finally did, Mrs Bragoli had to get a photo of us all, of course! (One of many you will be told to get in!) But it was worth it—the views were breathtaking, with mountains in every direction.
Back at the hotel, there were so many things to do—karaoke, pool, a disco—and for me, socialising was the best part. Everyone forgets about year groups and friend groups, and we all just become one big community, having fun together.
Our first day on the slopes was surreal—the sun was shining, and it was much warmer than expected. We practised getting into a routine with our ski equipment, ensuring we were ready to hit the fresh, smooth snow. Taking off ski boots after a long day was an amazing feeling, but the moment your feet touch the concrete, you realise the slopes are better than the ground! You may be a beginner and a little scared at first, but with the support of the teachers and instructors, you’ll be surprised how quickly you improve. I started on greens on the first day and was tackling reds by the last—you will improve!
We also had a quiz night, where we competed in teams with the teachers. (Out of pure luck, Miss Cole’s group won!) It was a great way to get competitive and work as a team. The award ceremony was another highlight—our instructors recognised our progress on the slopes, and the teachers gave out their own awards too. You don’t realise how observant they are of your personalities until then! We wrapped up the trip with a fantastic disco, the perfect way to celebrate an amazing week before the long journey home.
To finish—this is one of the best trips ever. You will have an unforgettable time and won’t regret a single moment, from the falls to the jumps. You’ll find yourself counting down the minutes until you can get back on the gondola, skis on, ready to hit the slopes with your friends.
A huge thank you to the teachers for organising this trip and making it one for the movies—Mrs Bragoli for turning us into personal models, Mr Harris for his great sense of humour, Mr Cox (because I know his vocal cords are crying), Mr Mitman for always having an open mindset, Miss Cole for being a great supporting hand, and Mrs Hoskins for being a motherly figure throughout the trip.
