Year 7 Resistant Materials Project

Cast in pewter

Our Year 7 students recently embarked on an exciting project: designing and creating pewter keyrings. The journey began with in-depth research into ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Incas, Greeks, and Anglo-Saxons. This exploration provided rich inspiration, sparking creativity that shaped their initial design ideas.

Students started by sketching their preliminary designs and then moved on to creating prototypes. These prototypes were essential for testing the functionality of their concepts and refining their final designs.

Pupils were also shown how to use woodworking tools as part of their skill development. In the final stage of the project, they applied these skills to cut out moulds from MDF. Once the moulds were prepared and patterns laid inside, students poured the molten pewter into the moulds, completing their one-of-a-kind keyrings.
