Thursday 3rd December saw this year’s House Arts Event take place at Bushey Meads and it was bigger and better than ever. Students from a range of year groups attended the event, witnessing some fantastic art, photography, drama, music and dance work from some of our extremely talented students. Each year students are tasked with entering a piece of work that represents a school wide focus. This year we were interested in looking at student’s perspectives on the word ‘team’.
The evening began with a tour of our spectacular on-site art gallery, students were given the opportunity to walk around and observe the art and photography entries on display. This provided a great opportunity for students to see their own work being showcased, or become inspired by the artwork of other students across a wide range of year groups. An inspiring
moment for students that may be interested in entering future events.
The art on display was a real showcase of the talent we have at our school and a real credit to our students. The work on show really captured the theme well and particularly impressed our judge on the afternoon Mr O’Kelly.
Following the gallery walk, students were invited into our main hall to watch live performances in the categories of dance, music and drama. The performances were brilliant and there was a fantastic atmosphere in the room. The audience were exemplary in showing respect to their peers and the performers in particular. It was a great example to see the supportive nature of our students as they cheered on our performers with lots of enthusiasm. As students took their seats and lights dimmed, our student light and sound technicians created a perfect atmosphere for an afternoon show to remember.
Once the show had begun, students watched on eagerly and as some astonishing talents were shared with the audience, there was a real feeling of respect, appreciation and community.
After the performances were over, students waited in anticipation for Mr O’Kelly’s decision on the top 3 entries. As the positions were announced, we saw images of the winning art pieces displayed on the big screen and another live performance from the 2nd place group. The final outcome was as follows.
In third place, was this brilliant piece by Mckenzie Bidewell from 8 Willow.
In second place, a fantastic dance performance from Kushi Shah and Phoebe Holmes from 7 Willow.
Finally, the winner of the 2021 House Arts Event was Rosey Ball from 10 Beech. This brilliant art piece really captured the theme of the event with a strong message about unity and togetherness.
On behalf of all of the Heads of House, thank you to everyone that attended, contributed and helped to make this event such a special occasion.
