It was lovely to join our superb Year 7 cohort in their Main School Assembly at the start of this week and be part of an inspiring assembly lead by Dance Teacher Miss Dolan. She asked the students to consider the resilience demonstrated by some inspirational women in recent decades; her first example was a dancer Josephine Baker – a famous American dancer who stood alongside Martin Luther King at his famous rally in Washington in 1963 and the only official female speaker to take the platform.
Other examples included Malala Yousafzai who, against all the odds, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and the visually impaired Paralympic Skier Menna Fitzpatrick who competed in Beijing as part of Team GB. I was impressed with how engaged the Year 7s were and hope they were truly inspired to continue demonstrating great resilience in their ongoing journeys of success.
