Practical Home Learning in KS3
During this unpredictable time away from the norm, it is important to continue with routines and stay active.
By setting practical home learning tasks, the KS3 students have had the chance to get creative by taking on several artistic job roles such as choreographer, director, dancer, actor, costume designer, videographer and editor.
It is amazing to see students continuing to challenge themselves through their practical home learning.
The Year 9 students have been creating Tik Tok inspired dances by choreographing the movement, selecting a piece of music and developing their understanding of camera work. Students then completed an evaluation of their work, reviewing their process and discussing the choices they made throughout. A snapshot of Emily Clarke (9 Oak) and Lily Purser (9 Willow) are seen below performing their choreography while enjoying the sunshine, along with Holly Harris’ (9 Ash) dance movement notation. My drama students have concluded their spring term topic on Silent Movies by creating their very own Silent Movie at home. They were given 3 scenarios to choose from and all students delivered Oscar-worthy performances along with some special appearances from their family members! Below are snapshots of a very shocked restaurant customer, Kizzy Spanbok (7 Beech) and the friendly shopkeeper Elsie Rogers (7 Ash). Emily Smyth (7 Beech) created the poster below summarising what she has learnt in dance so far in Year 7, including the health and safety rules that must be followed in the dance space. Thomas Sookhoo (7 Willow) filmed and edited a 2 minute trailer advertising the film and musical Singin’ in the Rain. In his trailer he included scenes which featured his own choreography performed alongside his family members.

This is just a glimpse at the brilliant work our creative BMS students are currently completing and I am very excited to see what more they are capable of.
Well done, stay safe and keep performing!
