Our recent school trip to London offered students an unforgettable blend of theatre, learning, and inspiration as we attended MJ The Musical. Students also had the rare opportunity to go backstage and discover how a major West End production is brought to life.
From the moment the curtain rose, students were captivated by the energy, choreography, and musicians on stage. The production charts the creative journey behind Michael Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour, showcasing not only iconic songs but also the teamwork, discipline, and artistry required to stage a musical. Many students commented on the precision of the ensemble work and the powerful storytelling achieved through movement, lighting, and live music.
The highlight of the day came after the performance, when students were invited backstage for an exclusive backstages tour. Students learned how set changes are managed seamlessly during the show, how lighting and sound cues are coordinated, and how costumes are designed for both style and practicality.
Throughout the trip, students represented the school impeccably, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and respect. The experience not only enriched their understanding of performing arts but also reinforced key skills such as teamwork, creativity, and professionalism. The show also paid tribute to Bob Fosse who is a key practitioner on the A Level Dance specification.
The trip was a huge success and I would like to thank all the parents, carers, students and staff members who made it all possible.
