On Monday 16 July, Bushey Meads School hosted the Modern Foreign Languages Mini Olympics Day. Miss Moses (Little Redding’s School) and I ( Mrs García, Bushey Meads School) have been working together throughout the academic year to ensure that today’s event was a success. Teams of 10 children from Little Redding’s, Hartsbourne, Bushey Heath and Highfields Primary Schools attended and competed against a Year 7 Bushey Meads School team.
There were a range of activities which tested the children’s French knowledge, focusing on vocabulary that they will have learnt in school throughout the academic year. Children had to work together, communicating clearly with each other and demonstrating excellent team work skills in order to be able to complete the activities such as spelling words, listing as many words as they could from a topic, beating the Year 9 French Language Leaders at noughts and crosses, labelling parts of the body and matching pictures and words together, all in French.
Once the activities had been completed, all students had ice creams and were awarded certificates and medals by Mrs Ash, Deputy Head teacher, for their participation in todays’ event. Bushey Heath Primary School came first and were awarded a trophy and winning certificates.
I would like to thank the Year 9 French Language Leaders for their help with all of today’s activities. I would also like to thank Miss Moses for all her hard work ensuring that today was a success.
Happy Francophone Week! Did you know that French is the second most studied language in the world, with some 125 million students and 900,000 teachers of French abroad? It is...
