We have been very fortunate to receive a grant of £750 from Sound Foundation UK to put towards a brand new piano. Using extra funds that we have raised from concert tickets and other music department events, we have bought a Casio Hybrid Electric Piano for £1200. If you have participated in a music concert, attended as a parent and paid for a ticket or given a donation, we are eternally grateful and have put your generous contribution to good use.

Here is the piano being put through its paces as Ben in Year 11 works on his second GCSE composition. The piano is situated in D3, our fantastic Music ICT Suite, and will be used mainly for GCSE and A Level Music Students who require its more advanced features such as the ability to multi-track record, export recordings to USB and sostenuto pedal often required in pieces of Grade 7 standard and above. One of its special features is its wooden key and moving hammer mechanism (pictured below) meaning that it combines the features of an electric piano with that of an acoustic piano. The action and touch are created by quality moving hammers meaning that it plays far more like a quality acoustic piano with the sound of an electric.
At the top of the piano, you can lift the lid to see the hammers lifting and striking the keys.
