On Tuesday morning of this week we were delighted to welcome Hero Slinn, Hertfordshire’s Director for Inclusion and Skills to our wonderful learning community. Hero oversees the Integrated Services for Learning (which focuses on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and Inclusion agenda throughout the county), the Virtual School, the Youth Services and a new Improvement and Transformation Service focused on making improvements to inclusion across Hertfordshire.

Her important portfolio brings together the more vulnerable children in our society, driving forward inclusion and subsequent pathways into adulthood, so, knowing her passion about these issues and being such an influential leader in Hertfordshire, made it inspiring to have her with us at Bushey Meads for the morning.
Hero has a background in primary school teaching, has held senior leader roles within schools and, more recently, has worked for a number of local authorities. She is therefore well placed to recognise the exemplary work we are doing at Bushey Meads to support children to Aspire to Achieve and also become a leading school in Hertfordshire for inclusion and achievement.
Hero visited a number of lessons across the school site, dropped in on some intervention sessions and spent some time seeing our new exciting Outdoor Education provision. She also met with a cross section of students and key middle leaders before touring the Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) building site which is nearing completion.
At the end of the visit she met with Mrs Ash – Head of Standards, Safeguarding and SEND and myself as the Executive Principal to reflect on her visit to Bushey Meads and discuss how the school and the Multi Academy Trust might support her strategic vision for Hertfordshire moving forward.
It was a real ‘moment in time’ to feel extremely proud of all the staff and students who are part of our learning community and celebrate our superb ethos and culture we have created at our school over many years.
