Sameer’s Visit to Middlesex University...

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the STEM Festival at Middlesex University, where I explored a variety of fascinating experiments, studies, and interactive activities. Here’s a recap of my experience.

Molecule Building Challenge

We were given a choice of three molecule models to build. I took on the hardest one and managed to complete it in just 5 minutes and 6 seconds—the third fastest time of the day!

Healthy vs. Cancerous Skin Cells

This activity involved examining the differences between healthy skin cells and skin cancer cells, focusing on color, shape, and cell gaps. It was fascinating to see how diseases alter cells at a microscopic level.

Brainwave-Controlled Games

We got to wear a headset that measured our brainwaves. The first game tested calmness by making a ball float, while the second required concentration to make a barrel catch fire and explode. It was amazing to see how our minds could control these elements!

Interactive Robot Selfie

A robot at the fair responded to a button press by raising its arm, instructing us to move forward, and then taking a selfie with us, which was printed as a sticker!

Coding Small Cars

We used Scratch to program and control small cars, giving us hands-on experience in coding and robotics.

Air Quality Testing

In this experiment, we analysed air quality by testing the effects of household items like paint, air fresheners, and dust. It was an eye-opening look at how different factors impact the air we breathe.

Attending the STEM Fair was an incredible experience that deepened my interest in science and technology. I look forward to exploring more STEM opportunities in the future.
