Healthy and Active Lifestyles at BMS

The PE and Health Faculty at Bushey Meads School is the only PE faculty I know of in a secondary school with the ‘and health’ words attached. This accurately reflects the excellent work the PE and Health Faculty do to encourage all members of the school community to adopt and lead an active and healthy lifestyle. There are several whole school initiatives in place to help facilitate this, but two recent examples are the introduction of an outdoor gym and the additional equipment purchased for the multigym.

Hundreds of students from all Year Groups use the outdoor gym, before and after school as well as during break, lunch and during certain PE lessons each day. It is lovely to see so many people benefitting from the equipment and having fun while using it.

The additional resistance machines, scaffold rig, benches and free weights now in the multigym compliment the cardiovascular machines and existing equipment to provide students the opportunity for a better total body workout. The free weights particularly have been a hit with my Year 11 PE class – as you can see from the photos.
