Reading Aloud
In support of our growth mindset culture we have introduced an app for those students normally engaging with our reading intervention program, who have dyslexia or English as a second language.  This is an important development in our inclusive curriculum provision as the app enables those students at home alongside students attending school to continue developing their literacy skills. As such, introducing students to a range of vocabulary, enabling them to become fluent and confident communicators.  In particular, we are able to continue promoting our motto of Aspire to Achieve through ensuring all students have the reading skills that are vital for accessing education and in the long-term securing jobs. This app allows students to pick a text that suits their ability to read aloud and records them doing.  A process that recent research found helped teenagers bridge the complexities between speech and prose.  Furthermore, staff then listen to students reading aloud and give direct and extremely detailed feedback on how to improve their skills for instance, in terms of fluency and through the use of a dictionary word choice/meaning. At this time we have 75 students benefiting from the provision all of whom have reported finding it easy to use and enjoy the sense of community that the technology provides.
