Year 10 Sports Studies Outdoor Education Trips – Velopark
As part of the assessment of the Outdoor activities unit, the Year 10 Sports Studies group visited the Lee Valley Velopark at the Olympic Park last Thursday. The group took part in a Mountain Biking and BMX session led by qualified instructors. They received some technical instruction about bike handling and then completed a series of assessable tasks. The experience also provided the students with excellent experience of the benefits and skills to be gained from taking in outdoor activities which forms the basis of their current assignment. Despite being new to the sports, the group did extremely well showing great enthusiasm and desire to improve their skill level.
Girls Badminton
Monday saw a group of KS 4 students travel to WGGS to play a friendly round of Badminton fixtures. It was really lovely to witness the students taking part in an activity they clearly enjoy but have had few competitive opportunities in. The students are all either examination PE students from year 10 or students who have been attending Badminton after school clubs in the Autumn term.
Participating students: Ka.Chandarana, Kr.Chandarana, K.Kovarova, R.Wheeler, E.Cloote, S.Ghumman A.Shrestha, B.Shanthakumar, E.Williams
The games on court were competitive with the students divided into 3 doubles pairing and 3 singles players and there was a lovely friendly atmosphere between the two schools. All the girls demonstrated good progress throughout their matches and by the end clearly had a greater understanding of the rules and requirements for officiating.
Results:
Doubles – lost 4-5 (Ka & Kr Chandarana, K.Kovarova & R.Wheeler, S.Ghumman & B.Shanthakumar)
Singles – lost 4-5 (A.Shrestha, E.Cloote, E.Williams)
Special mention goes to the doubles pairing of K.Kovarova and R.Wheeler and singles player A.Shrestha for winning all of their matches.
We hope to play some more similar type fixtures in the new year.
