Developing Oracy in English

This week in English, students in year 9 have been conducting research about life in America following the Great Depression in preparation for their study of John Steinbeck’s novella, ‘Of Mice and Men’ later this term.

Students developed their vital research skills about a given topic. They organised this research into a Google Slides presentation and presented their findings to their class, developing their all important oracy skills.

The benefits of developing oracy skills extend beyond school and employability and has been proven to develop a range of social, emotional and interpersonal skills, such as increasing self-confidence, resilience, empathy and self-awareness. This is why developing oracy skills is a key part of the student journey at Bushey Meads School.
