On Monday 28th we were delighted to welcome both new to school students and our Year 11 students back into our outstanding Sixth Form for our new Bridging Fortnight.
The students enjoyed a welcome breakfast to get them ready for the day.
It was fantastic to see so many students. They all looked exceptionally smart in business dress and were eager to start their Sixth Form journey. Our new Y12s were welcomed by Mr Monks, Acting Head of Sixth Form, with an assembly focusing on the huge range of opportunities BMS offers all of our Sixth Form students.
Staff have been impressed at the mature attitude and positive focus in their lessons. Students have enjoyed experiencing a different style of learning and succeeding with challenging Y12 tasks.
On the first day our new Sixth Form students were given lunch in our excellent Cafe to celebrate and welcome them as senior students in BMS.
My name is Megan Hooper, and I’ve been a student here at Bushey Meads School since year 7. This week, I have had the incredible opportunity to experience what Sixth Form will be like next year, as I am going into Year 12. I am taking drama, photography and psychology for my A-Levels, and in these bridging weeks, I am having taster lessons as an insight to what my courses will look like when I formally begin Sixth Form in September.
We were asked to wear formal business wear, and are following a real Sixth Form timetable. This means that we are not only going to 4 lessons for each chosen subject, but we are utilising the recently renovated sixth form centre during our study periods. I have loved using the Sixth Form facilities to complete homework, catch up on coursework and sit in the Sixth Form cafe with my bestfriends Risha, Jhanavi and Maisie when I want a break from work – which has definitely been the highlight of my week.
My name is Cameron Beckford and I have been a student at Bushey Meads since year 7.
Being in Sixth Form for the bridging fortnight has been a wonderful experience that has helped me deal with my anxieties and feel more confident moving into my Post-16 studies. The cafe offers wonderful food, and the main room in the Sixth Form centre provides the ideal mix between a social and work environment. I’m very grateful for this opportunity!I am Swarthy Manoharan and I am a new student to Bushey Meads School. My time during Bridging Fortnight has been a great experience. I have met a lot of new people that have helped me settle in and find where my lessons are. The subject lessons have been a good experience with all the teachers being really helpful.
