Year 11 Revision Techniques Evening

On Wednesday 16 October the main hall was packed with Year 11 students, parents and carers ready to learn different strategies and techniques for revision. Mr Varsani, Assistant Headteacher hosted the evening which started with students collecting free exam resources to aid their revision alongside the opportunity to purchase CGP revision cards for the core subjects of maths, English and science. Ms Bowe, Lead Practitioner for English, then opened the evening with some useful pointers such as:

  • Ensuring there is a dedicated and organised work space
  • Snack don’t binge – 20-30 minutes worth of revision at a time works best
  • Revision starts early – i.e. now!
  • Balance revision with rewards
She also looked at how we learn the best and the best revision techniques you can utilise to maximise the outcomes.
Mr O’Brien, Head of Science Faculty, delivered a focus on the importance of science for students and strategies and tools to use to support their learning.

Ms Wells, Pathway Leader for Maths, and Ms Bowe then went through particular pointers for the core subjects, in particular the various apps and online tools available to support students with revision.Mrs Blowers, Assistant Pastoral Manager, emphasised the importance of attendance linked to attainment and discussed the importance of Mindfulness to maximise the brains power to retain knowledge. The evening was a great success and finished with a look at how students can communicate their understanding with parents and carers to ensure fantastic progress throughout the year.
