Child development

Our BTEC Children’s Play, Learning and Development students went on an insightful trip to Broadfields Primary School. Since we have been understanding the developmental norms of children from birth to 7 years old, this trip allowed us to see how Broadfields integrates and increases access to education for pupils with disabilities in the three areas required by the planning duties in the Equality Act 2010, areas such as the curriculum, physical environment and information.
Broadfields School has a special needs provision that increases the extent to which pupils with disabilities can participate in the curriculum.
Students expanded their knowledge by understanding how practitioners identified when children with SEND, how EHCP referrals are made, the Borough’s input, and the differentiated curriculum. We ended the day by supporting children who are accessing mainstream learning.
