Student Engagement in Science.

Embedding student engagement in science one year 7 class had an open learning activity to investigate the ‘big idea’ of the human heart. Embedding a positive attitude to their learning of Biology and demonstrating one of our core values of motivation, many students took a creative route making models of the heart. Taking the theory of how a heart works and making it tangible facilitated students in understanding what the heart does and how its different parts interconnect to support our bodies. Showing respect for each other students shared their independent learning efforts and knowledge lifting the attainment of all. Our KS3 Science curriculum provides students with structure and clarity of information as students follow a rotation of topics in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics allowing students to become proficient in a range of skills from how you work in a laboratory to numeracy. Building the foundations for gaining ‘scientific capital’ these vital KS3 lessons facilitate students in gaining the knowledge of key scientific concepts they need to progress to KS4 and beyond.
