Perseverance and Grit – A True Story
Associate Leader and Head of Sixth Form Mr O’Kelly led some inspirational Main School Assemblies this week on the Theme of the Week Perseverance.
He spoke about a personal friend of his that he used to play football with when he was at school, Adam Bowden, and how Adam demonstrated great perseverance to overcome some significant setbacks in his professional sporting career.
Adam had always aspired to represent his country and take part in the Olympic Games and actually won the qualifying race, but was not picked to compete. Despite this huge disappointment of not being able to fulfil his lifetime ambition, he demonstrated true grit, determination and perseverance and changed his sport to triathlons and then later iron-man triathlons and did represent his country at the highest level on the world stage.

Students listened very quietly to this inspiring story and took away some great tips to develop their own ambitions and character to persevere.
Mr O’Kelly also talked about his role as the Head of Sixth Form and encouraged all students to think about their futures at Bushey Meads and how well they can do in our outstanding Sixth Form in a few years time – remembering that the journey starts now!
