This half term, our excellent STEM Ambassadors delivered two excellent coding workshops at Little Reddings Primary School and Hartsbourne Primary School, working with pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5.

Led by our STEM Ambassador Jaime, the team introduced the pupils to coding using the iPads and the Sphero Bolt robots. Their main challenge was to code the Sphero Bolt robots to move in mathematical shapes such as squares, triangles and circles. Once they cracked the basics, pupils went further by changing speeds and angles, creating colour patterns and even designing their own pixel images to light up on the robots, showing brilliant creativity and problem solving.
Throughout the workshops, pupils worked in small groups and showed excellent teamwork, focus and enthusiasm. They listened carefully to instructions, helped each other debug their code and were very polite and appreciative towards our STEM Ambassadors. Many pupils said they loved seeing how small changes in the code completely changed the robot’s movement, and others asked when they could do more coding.
For our STEM Ambassadors, the experience was just as valuable. They developed their leadership, communication and mentoring skills, and grew in confidence as positive role models for younger pupils.
We are very proud of everyone involved and are already looking forward to delivering more coding workshops in the future to continue inspiring the next generation of STEM learners across the Trust.
