Behind the scenes of a sixth former
Becoming a sixth form student gained a substantial amount of responsibility but more freedom. The dramatic transition from secondary school to sixth form enabled students to wisely use their free time to study. According to a sixth former, “Its certainly more different than I thought it would be from my free lessons, where we are expected to revise and get our EPQ’s done to our actual lessons. Adapting to an environment where we are supposed to have done extra learning and pick up on our work as efficiently as possible.” Needless to say, sixth form students explore engaging subjects and build new positive relationships from meeting new students!
Sixth form students have had an opportunity to initiate a one year programme of ‘Kindness matters’. This allows year 12 students to facilitate an educational environment to younger students. As someone who is currently participating in “kindness matters”, assisting in Year 10’s English lessons has been a pleasure! Actively teaching younger students on Macbeth not only built confidence but a boost in my mentoring skills! This all the more strengthens the school’s motto ‘mind to be kind’ and truly shows how ‘kindness matters’.
From rules to rights: understanding law at school
Within a week of being in Sixth Form, students already have amazing access to career opportunities outside of school to enrich their learning. On Monday, for example, a virtual Law conference was held, giving students from Years 11-13 the chance to network with some of the UKs leading law firms!
As a law student, Tuesday is always one of our busiest days, as it includes the twilight session, meaning we stay until 4 p.m. for a sixth period — and for us, that’s Law. During one lesson, we were split into groups of seven and asked to stage a criminal trial from start to finish. Each student had a role to play, from judge to prosecutor to defendant, which made the activity both fun and challenging. It wasn’t just enjoyable — it gave us a clear and memorable insight into how trials actually work, while also showing the importance of each role in the courtroom.
Isn’t life more fun when you think a little Seussical?
Heading over to the performing arts department, auditions for Seussical the Musical commenced on 16 September 2025, with amazing auditions from a range of students from year 7 to year 13. We, sixth form students, contributed to the Seussical the Musical through auditioning! The past few days have been filled with eager and enthusiastic students when beginning their rehearsals! Imagine a world of Dr Seuss coming to life for just one night, would you really want to miss the opportunity? We warmly welcome you to the Seussical Musical on February 10th and 11!
