New Learning Opportunity

BMS is really pleased to share that we have become a registered centre for the AQA Unit Award Scheme. I am sure you will join us in extending our congratulations to Mrs. Dillon, Head of Learning Support and SENCO, in completing the necessary training to make this possible.

These awards are an invaluable addition to our already extensive curriculum. They will be a central provision in ensuring that every one of our students receives not only a positive educational experience but also, has life-long learning skills. The AQA Unit Award Scheme provides students with the opportunity to engage in a plethora of short courses that can be tailored to their personal interests.  Each unit is a self-contained learning experience covering the following curriculum areas:

  • Life Skills
  • PSHE
  • Outdoor Education
  • PE and Sport
  • Creative Arts.

The practical short courses include Use of Puppetry; Fire Service Youth Training; First Aid; Bush Craft. Whilst others cover Tonal Drawing; Literacy for Life – Motor Vehicles; and Numeracy for the Catering Industry.

On completion of each unit, students receive an AQA Unit Award Scheme certificate celebrating their achievement. As students embark on the next stage in their future these certificates will provide essential evidence of their learning.
