During the enrichment day on Thursday 3rd February, Year 9 got the chance to experience some of the subjects not offered at key stage 3 but which they might choose to study at key stage 4.
Psychology studied Social Learning Theory and how role models might influence a person’s behaviour. Despite being in year 9, students even had a chance to try out some examination style questions.
Economics looked at how the value of money has changed over time and our future Alan Sugar’s looked at marketing in Business Studies.
PE ensured all students understood the difference between the courses on offer and applied knowledge to known sporting successes. Knowledge was also tested in computing and IT through Kahoot and using applications that the courses would introduce students to in key stage 4.
Our future sociologists discovered the difference between the ‘ologies’ and how sociologists try to understand behaviours in society.
This year, for the first time, students also experienced media studies in which they made a short film using the school environment as a backdrop. Although childcare has been offered in the past, this year Mr Burley ran ‘Child Development’ offering a new course alongside the previous one which has proved so successful for students in the past. In this session, students looked at developmental milestones and used playdough to learn about the skills used during their building of models.
All in all, each year 9 students experienced five new subjects over the course of the day. They now eagerly await the publication of the Options Booklet and opportunity to choose their options. Options Evening 2022 is on Wednesday 16th March and BMS looks forward to welcoming year 9 parents and students to the event which will showcase all the exciting subjects on offer in key stage 4.
