Year 9 students enjoyed a day of cultural and linguistic immersion. The MFL town trail involved students visiting different ‘shops’ (classrooms) in a Spanish town (the BMS site) and participating in role plays with the shopkeepers (teachers). At each shop, students listened to the shopkeeper’s presentation then used the information to complete a questionnaire. They had a budget of 75 BMS Euros and used this to make their purchases.
On the cultural side, students attended a dance workshop where they learnt to dance the Salsa or the Can Can and a cookery workshop where they baked Magdalenas or Madeleines depending on whether they studied French or Spanish. In art, they created layered jungles based on the work of Henri Rousseau and collaged cubist faces based on the work of Picasso. In music students learnt songs (including some Christmas carols) in the target language.
Our students described the day as ‘really fun and educational’ and ‘one that I will always remember.’ They said ‘ It was great doing subjects that I do not do any more.’
In our enrichment day earlier this term, year 10 were given the theme of Holocaust Memorial which coincided with the theme of the week of Commemoration. January 27th marks...
