History department BHM

Hi,

Please see a blurb on information on what we have been doing in the history department for BHM,
Apologies, I don’t have any photos.
Year 9 have been completing their unit on the British Empire. We have been learning about the experiences under British control, specifically India and Southern Africa. For India we have learnt about how some Indian people were treated with respect and reverence, even receiving a standing ovation in the Houses of Parliament; but equally how some Indian people were not respected, such as the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, when the British military ordered to open fire on people who were praying.

We have been learning that no one country had the same experience of empire due to different reasons such as prejudice, wealth and racism. This has allowed us to ‘reclaim the narrative’ which is the theme for this years Black History Month.
Thanks
