Contemporary Choreography Workshop with...
As part of the Dance Department’s commitment to enhance our dance students’ understanding of the subject, we were delighted to have the opportunity to have Matthew, a third year dance student at Rambert Dance School, teach the A Level and GCSE students a Choreography Workshop this week. It is essential for students to have an understanding of Rambert Dance Company as they are a compulsory area of study in the A Level course, so this opportunity was very exciting.
Rambert is a leading contemporary dance company known for its innovative and diverse performances. As one of the world’s most diverse companies of dancers Rambert transforms everyday spaces by making dance that is awe-inspiring, adventurous, dynamic, and relevant.

This workshop was planned at this moment in the year to provide the GCSE and A Level dance students with ideas and inspirations for their upcoming choreography projects and exams. All involved really challenged themselves especially as they were exploring a new style and Matthew had high expectations.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and have now gained valuable lessons and techniques on how to successfully choreograph ready for their exams.

Student reviews include:
“It felt so so so good to learn the contemporary technique”
“I really enjoyed working with a professional dancer who has experience of working with big choreographers such as Akram Khan and James Cousins”
“Matthew was awesome and such an amazing dancer. I’ve never seen anyone dance like him!”
“I hadn’t experienced the dance style before. I loved it. It felt so freeing!”

We hope to have Matthew back soon for more brilliant workshops.
