Celebrating achievement in STEM

This year has started off with a bang in STEM.

Programming from Scratch is being taken to a new level by BMS students. A collection of new aspiring projects in programming. These projects include many creative aspects such as game design, sound animation and character design. Many projects include aspects of fan fiction, fantasy and sci-fi effects. Increase in video games has led to the popularity of game design in the world of software development.

From quality testing to automated game modes, many students as well as working on their projects enjoy testing other games features and ‘remixing’ certain projects to improve their understanding of key coding principles. These projects include popular themes from games such as Minecraft, Pokemon and Stardew Valley.

Looking across the Trust, software development and coding is also flourishing with the success of the new and improved Little Reddings coding club. This teaches Year 5 and 6 the key skills and ideas in programming to prepare them for a career in IT. This helped along with a lot of practise of these concepts in Scratch. However this is not all, we also offer this club to all years at BMS Coding club, every Friday lunchtime in F4. Here you can gain great insight in the world of computer science and coding even if you’re new to the topic. What a wonderful start to the year!!!
