Student Leadership

Last week on Wednesday our head students came together for a special assembly focused on transition and leadership, delivered to both Year 7 and Year 12 students. The assembly highlighted the importance of adapting to change, supporting one another and stepping into leadership roles with confidence – along with a few tips from some of our current sixth form student leaders about their own journey into leadership, what to expect as a student leader and leadership advice!

To our Year 7s, the assembly served as an encouraging reminder that their journey into secondary school is about more than just new classrooms and subjects; it’s also about growing as individuals, building friendships and finding their place in the school community.

To our Year 12s, the focus shifted to the challenges and opportunities of sixth form life. As students begin the next stage of their academic journey, the assembly emphasised the importance of independence, responsibility and acting as role models for younger students.

A central theme was Leadership in Action. Students were encouraged to think how they can take the initiative; whether that’s through considering being a Student Leader, Prefect or simply just being a positive influence on their peers. The assembly also highlighted that leadership isn’t just for the title that it carries but also about the everyday choices students make to support others and create a positive atmosphere within the school.

The assembly reminded us that leadership isn’t about age or title, but everyday actions that help shape our school community. Every student has the opportunity to lead with integrity, kindness and respect. So as we look ahead to the oncoming academic year, we hope students feel inspired to step up, support one another, and seize the opportunities available to them.
